With adventure coursing through my veins one Wednesday eve, I searched the confines of my beauty closet and immediately reached for what I thought was the cutest nail polish kit. KISS Gradation nail kit ($6.97, walmart.com) which comes complete with three polishes – two pearlized and one with specs of gold. I used Exposure (gold), but the kit also comes in Film Noir (black), Freeze Frame (pink) and Big Break (light blue).
I was looking forward to mixing up my nail regime with an interesting, yet subtle nail design and was thrilled that my decision didn’t have to involve a nail technician and a tip to boot. The best part of my DIY decision, meant that I’d save money doing my nails rather and I could now afford that pair of strappy sandals I really didn’t need anyway.
Excited at the prospect of knowing that within 30 minutes (and three steps) I’d have an enviable nail design, I got down to business and started reading the directions typeset in the tiniest of fonts on the back of the kit.
With clear numbers from 1-3 marked on the bottles, I started with the lightest golden shade – bottle #1 and applied two coats and let the lacquer fully dry. And then came bottle #2, a rich gold shade that was applied in one coat just on the nail tip, but don’t let it dry before you apply the polish from bottle #3 on half of the nail because #3 blends all of the colors together. After you’ve repeated the steps on the other hand you’ll love the end result – gorgeous nails. Make sure to complete your new nail design with top coat.
I rate KISS Gradation Kit a 10 for two reasons: ease of use and a beautiful result.
