When I first got my iPad mini, last Christmas, I swore to protect her (Yeah. I call “it” her) like a baby. It holds my most sacred writings, pictures and is first on my gadgets list for those very reasons. Before I could fully enjoy the device, I needed to know it would be OK if I dropped it by accident–which was bound to happen because I’am accident prone. I searched far and wide–OK, I went to RadioShack (it was the closet store I could make it to on my lunch break) and picked up the standard $60 black Targus case. It was big and bulky and very complicated. However, the size gave me a sense of security.

It was uncomfortable to use and eventually I wanted something better. Not to mention, it was ugly. The techy-look is cool for techies, but me–avid lover of pink, believer in stilettos and red lips–not so much!

The Mapi Soli Leather Mini iPad Case (129.99) arrived to my desk and at first glance appeared flimsy, despite it being crafted of European leather. I was being stubborn about it and tossed it aside. I relied on the Targus because it just looked more sturdy. After all, I’m a young working woman, $60 could be a new pair of shoes…I was going to get wear out of that case! Something made me give the loud red Mapi a chance. A gal needs new scenery after a while. So I de-accessorized my Pad, and wrapped her in the Mapi. Eureka! She fit perfectly inside the lightweight body. Inside is lined with felt so it is soft to the touch and flatter than the layers of my Targus. Because of its sleek design, it is easier to hold which makes for faster typing. A strap holds it closed when not being used.

It has a built in stand to hold the Pad upright on flat surfaces, but I haven’t figured out just how to fold it so it works. It’s extremely difficult to figure out or I’m just not getting it. The case leaves space for you to insert your headphones and charger and allows you to access all the buttons and ports with no problem. As for safety, as long as the strap is in place, it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s secure in a pocket held in by a flap and shouldn’t fall out like other cases that have hold your pad by a plate.

I’m certainly feeling it! And, yes the price tag is a little steep, but would you put your baby in a cheap stroller?
