Trayvon Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin have settled the wrongful death suit against the homeowner’s association of the Sanford subdivision where Trayvon was killed at the hands of neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman. Trayvon’s parents also have plans to also raise a suit against Zimmerman, as he was not included in this suit.

The Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump made a portion of the paperwork public, but the settlement amount was blocked out. Crump, did however admit that it was over $1 million, then claimed he never said that. Weird.

It’s being reported that Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, said Trayvon’s parents tried to settle through mediation and the association or its insurer offered $1 million, but Trayvon’s parents had rejected that amount.

I honestly thought that by winning the suit, that this was somehow an admission of guilt from Zimmerman’s camp, but it’s not. According to Orlando Sentinel, the settlement says:

“It is understood and agreed that the payment made herein is not to be construed as an admission of any liability by or on behalf of the releasing parties; but instead the monies being paid hereunder is consideration for avoiding litigation, the uncertainties stemming from litigation as well as to protect and secure the good name and good will of the released parties.”
