Tyrese Gibson is forever grinding and in his latest project he’s telling his life story from his perspective.
The singer, actor and author is gearing up for the Easter release of his new documentary A Black Rose That Grew Through The Concrete, which he describes as his rags to riches story.
“I really did start from the bottom,” he said. “There was nothing about my childhood that was easy. In my mind I knew there was something greater out there.”
Although he grew up in a tough neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles, the 33-year-old said he never let his circumstance limit his goals for a better life. “I was exposed to it all — gangs, murder, prostitution, drugs. I lived in the streets and at one point I was homeless. I never stopped myself from dreaming beyond my reality,” he said.
In the documentary, Tyrese shares the story of his childhood and how he managed to rise to superstardom.
