When I think of my favorite shows growing up — the shows that really understood me, made me laugh and taught me something along the way — I think of BET’s old lineup. It definitely feels nostalgic now, but once upon a time BET was my go-to network for all of my entertainment needs.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s still some shows I enjoy today like Real Husbands of Hollywood and The Game, but there’s just something about old-school ComicView and Free and AJ that I can’t let go of.

MUST READ: 5 Ways ‘Second Generation Wayans’ Could Be A Better TV Show

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane of 5 BET shows that we miss, and a few that deserve a second chance.

1. Rap City: Tha Basement

Rap City: Tha Basement was more than just a freestyle rap show. It brought hip-hop and urban culture from around the country into our homes everyday. Whether you were a mainstream or underground artist, from the West Coast or East Coast, male or female, Rap City was diverse and it gave talent it’s time to shine. With its two-hour time slot, Rap City was proof that BET once focused its programming on authentic, musical-based content.

2. 106 & Park: BET Top 10 Live

No offense to the new 106 & Park hosts but no one can replace Free and AJ. When they hosted the top 10 countdown show it was new, fresh and full of energy. 106 and Park was our equalivant to MTV’s Total Request Live; it pushed our culture and style and presented our stars in a positive light. From video premieres to live performances and sit-down interviews to celebrity guest hosts, 106 & Park will always have a soft spot in the hearts of millennial musical lovers.

3. College Hill

College Hill did for reality TV what A Different World did for scripted television. It showed young African Americans in a collegiate setting and strayed away from stereotypical story lines. Although the show did receive criticism for it’s footage of college parties and fights, it represented young black students of all socioeconomic statuses as more that one-dimensional characters.

4. Teen Summit

Every Saturday, Teen Summit spoke to the black youth about the issues that affected us most. Whether it was bullying, gang violence or domestic abuse, we could always count on Teen Summit to keep it real — and positive.

5. Comic View

For all things funny, BET’s ComicView was a hilarious hit. Before black comedians were booking major movie and TV-show deals, their home was on BET every weeknight at 10 p.m. This stand-up show gave our comedians a platform to present their material and reach their core audiences.

Now, you weight in. Tell us which BET shows you think the network should consider bringing back.
