“I don’t want to look like I’m wearing a mask” is one of the most common statements I hear. To those women I say, invest in a great tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, Oil-Free ($43, sephora.com)  – I wear Mocha.

Tinted Moisturizer versus Foundation?

Tinted moisturizers give you just enough coverage to even your complexion while it moisturizes, protects and gives your complexion instant luminosity. Foundations give sheer to heavy coverage without the extra benefits.

While there’s a time and place for a foundation, if your goal is to look as if you’re not wearing any makeup, but still want to look like you put in some effort, a tinted moisturizer should be on your next makeup shopping list.

I admit that it took me some time to submit to that which is not a full coverage product given my history of left over blemishes after an acne breakout. It was a Spring day in 2012 that I’d come to know the benefits of tinted moisturizers via a sample that was given to me by a very helpful Sephora salesperson.

I looked in the mirror one day and thought that it was time that I wear less of ‘everything’ since I was experiencing more great skin days then not, at which time I whipped out my Laura Mercier sample. After one application I was hooked. Call it a love affair or obsession, LM and I will never part because it does exactly what I want it to do – let’s my skin breathe as my blemishes seemingly disappear to the background.

What surprised me about Laura Mercier was the shade palette – it extended beyond the light, medium & tan shades and actually includes deeper shades that black women can actually wear. For this, LM receives a standing ovation from moi.
