b. smythHelloBeautiful.com’s “Base Level” column features the hottest new artists we’re buzzing about. Before they make it to the summit of superstardom, we spot them at base level–the beginning of their hopeful journey to the top. This week‘s wonder boy is 19-year-old B. Smyth!

“You like Chris Brown? Have you heard of B. Smyth?”

At 19-years-old, B. Smyth has the sculptured body of a man twice his age. His dance moves are reminiscent of a young Chris Brown and his glowing bronze skin reminds you of BabyFace back in the day. He has a lethal combination of everything it takes to make a R&B star! His Youtube channel–that showcases his crisp vocals with a plethora of videos that showcase everything from fancy footwork freestyle to Frank Ocean covers–has generated over 4 million views and over 36,000 subscribers! If that isn’t impressive enough, the young heart-throb is signed to the legendary Motown Records. His upbeat song “Leggo” featuring 2 Chainz leads the way for his grand debut.

Get the basics on B. Symth, below:

Name: Brandon Smyth

Age: 19

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Musical Inspirations: I would say, people like Bobby Brown, Michael Jackson, Usher, Chris Brown, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

When did you know you wanted to become a singer? I think I was in 10th grade in High School and I joined the chorus and I started doing little talent shows. I’d win, and the girls would be like hanging around me. I was like yeah I want to stick with this!

How do women influence your music? That’s where I get my inspiration from. Not just women, everything in general. Everything could be a song. Music is universal and it can touch many different aspects of life, whether it’s relationship problems or just problems in general. Or, maybe not problems. Maybe it’s happiness. It captures every emotion.

How do you describe your sound? Young. Fun. New and fresh. Energetic. Just good vibes.

How do you feel about the comparisions to Chris Brown?: I don’t mind it at all. Chris Brown is definitely someone who has influenced me. Not only Chris Brown, Usher, James Brown… Michael Jackson. So when it comes to comparisons I don’t mind it at all! But at the same time I am my own guy–B. Smyth and I’m going to try to be B. Smyth.
