You emailed us and as promised, we answered. Check out this week’s Strand Therapy Q&A. Keep the questions coming. Be sure to send them to strandtherapy@gmail.com. We love this stuff!

Hi,

My baby girl has dry, soft hair, but it’s thick. I use coconut oil, grease, and water. I was wondering if you can give me some advice on how to give her hair some shine. Also, what type of shampoo and conditioner would you recommend? I keep her hair braided most of the time. Please advise! Thank you.

Hello Roberta,

It’s so great you’re starting a healthy hair care regimen for your daughter. You may want to consider another style besides braids. Wearing the same hairstyle repeatedly, especially styles that start off tight, like braids, can create tension on the hair and scalp. Too much tension can often lead to breakage.

Regarding shine, natural shine comes from within. Make sure your daughter is eating her fruits and veggies and drinking plenty of water. In terms of products, try Design Essentials® Natural Curl Cleanser Sulfate Free Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner. They’re both great for kids. You can also use Design Essentials® Reflections Liquid Shine or Silk Essentials, which will create a beautiful luster on your daughter’s hair.
