Hi,

I’ve been transitioning to natural for at least 9 months and I’m thinking about cutting my permed hair off.  But I’m extremely nervous because I don’t want to have a “TWA” because I’m terrified of what it would look like.  I’m a teenager in high school and hair is a very big thing! So my question is: are there any certain products that I should buy, like shampoos, brushes, combs, or conditioners?  Please help.

Hi Angelik,

Yes, the TWA can be a little intimidating, especially in high school. But, it’s a great experience! How long is your hair? How much relaxed hair do you have? Have you tried set styles-twist, braids, roller, flexi-rods, strawllers? The styling options are endless! You should go on YouTube and check out the tutorials of some of our favorite vloggers-CharyJay and Kinky Curly Coily Me. These ladies have the cutest styles with easy-to-follow tutorials. I think you’ll like what you see.

Now to your question, you’ll definitely need a wide tooth comb to use while detangling your hair when it’s wet, and butterfly clips for sectioning. If you plan on blow-drying your hair, then invest in a Denman brush. My product recommendation will depend on your desired hairstyle. Please provide me with more details on the types of styles you prefer and your hair length.

Happy Hair!
