Hello,

I want to have natural hair I’m sick of having chemicals in my hair. I was thinking of getting box braids when I go into eighth grade. So I’m asking how long do I have to grow my relaxer out to get them and how do you take care of my braids?

Thank you in-advance.

Hello there.

Braids can be an excellent protective style. And box braids are definitely a HOT, HOT, HOT trend. 3 to 6 weeks after getting a relaxer would be a good time for box braids because you should have new growth. Now it’s important to still care for your hair while it’s braided. Shampoo and condition your hair at least once every 1 to 2 weeks (but more if you’re a swimmer). Rinse your braids thoroughly. Then spray a leave-in conditioner to protect your strands. To moisturize hair daily, feel free to use a product like Wave by Design Mist & Shine or Design Essentials Reflections Liquid Shine. These products will give your braids a natural, healthy-looking shine. But more importantly, it will keep your hair hydrated as well.

Take care.

Here’s to healthy, happy hair!
