HelloBeautiful!

You emailed us and as promised, we answered. Check out this week’s Strand Therapy Q&A. Keep the questions coming. Be sure to send them to strandtherapy@gmail.com. We love this stuff!

Hello,

I live in the Bahamas and I read the Hello Beautiful site about 5 times a day, more if I could.

My 17 year old daughter has good roots and growing up she had hair on her back like I did growing up, through the years it dropped. She suffers from seborrheic dermatitis. I was wondering what products can you recommend for her to use, such as shampoos, protein treatments, conditioners, and moisturizers. She keeps her hair natural now and is curious and contemplating braiding her hair in box braids. Is this a good idea and will this help her hair to grow back long and beautiful the way it was?

Also, I once had beautiful hair as a black woman, long on my back, but lupus medication and dyes damaged my hair – please what can I use?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Tarsha!

Thanks so much for your questions. You stated your daughter has seborrheic dermatitis. Has she seen a dermatologist? If so, what did they prescribe? If she hasn’t, then I’d definitely recommend speaking with a dermatologist. In terms of products, Design Essentials® Therapeutics Anti-Itch Shampoo will work wonders on her scalp. It will help alleviate the dryness and flakes often associated with seborrheic dermatitis. I’d follow the Anti Itch Shampoo with Design Essentials® Natural Curl Cleanser and Moisturizing Conditioner. Both will nourish your daughter’s hair by infusing moisture.

Yes! Box braids are an excellent protective style. Just be sure her hair isn’t braided too tight. It’s also important to maintain a healthy hair care regimen as well which includes shampooing, conditioning, and moisturizing the scalp.

Finally, for you, mom, it’s important you balance your hair with moisture and protein. Try Design Essentials® Moisture Retention Conditioning Shampoo, DEEP Fortifying Treatment, & Hydrate Leave-In Hydrating Conditioner.
