After two weeks of non stop thrilling competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics, we’re taking a moment to pause and let it all sink in. From swimming, basketball, boxing to track and field our athletes performed at their highest level and brought home the hardware to prove it.

Here are 6 of some of the most memorable moments that will go down in history:

Gabby Douglas became the first Black woman to win Olympic gold in the gymnastics all-around. Her flawless, jaw-dropping routines made her the “most-clicked” athlete on NBC’s Olympic site and is the new cover girl for Corn Flakes.

The U.S. women’s 4×100 relay team ran the race in 40.82 seconds, smashing the old world record of 41.37.

Thirty-six female boxers made history by competing in an Olympic sport that was boys-only until this year. Claressa Shields, a 17-year-old American who grew up in Flint, Mich., won the middleweight gold medal.

The first American woman to do so in 28 years, Sanya Richards-Ross became Olympic Champion over 400m at the 2012 Games in London by overtaking the competition in the last 50 meters of the race.

The women’s basketball team brought home their their fifth consecutive gold medal.

At 17, Lia Neal became the only the second black female swimmer to make it to the Olympics and brought home a bronze medal.
