My daughter is getting bigger and now I have to decide if she is big enough to transition to a booster seat. I think there are a lot of different rules out there but I needed to get true facts. The best resource that I found was the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They provide all the rules you need when it comes to child car safety and they also provide recommendations. Here are some very important things to remember below but I urge you to visit the website and do your own research.

1. Children under 12 months should always ride rear facing car seat in the back of the car.

2. Children 1 – 3 should remain in a rear facing car seat until they reach the top height and weight as recommend by the car seat manufacturer. Then you can change them to a forward facing car seat.

3. Children 4 – 7 should remain in a forward facing car seat until they out grow it. Then you can move them to a booster seat.

4. 7 -12 should remain in a booster seat until they are can fit in a seat belt properly.

Golden Rule: It’s always safest to have your child sit in the back seat.
