In November of 2000, Monroe introduced readers to Annette Goode in the award winning novel “God Don’t Like Ugly.” Readers immediately embraced the character and fell in love with what would become the first installment of the “The God Series”. In 2006, “God Don’t Play” reunited Monroe with the characters she first introduced in God Don’t Like Ugly and marked her debut onto The New York Times bestseller list and her second #1 Essence bestselling novel.

With her extraordinary circumstances and often unsettling portrayal, they followed Annette as she endured and triumphed over childhood poverty, sexual abuse and obesity. Perhaps what pulled readers in the most, was Annette’s longtime friendship with Rhoda O’Toole. They were forever friends–who like most friends–fought and hurt, but at the end of it all, loved. This summer, Monroe brings readers the dramatic finale of her successful God series in “God Don’t Make No Mistakes” (Kensington/Dafina Books – June 2012 – $24).

These days, Annette Goode Davis has a pretty full plate—literally and figuratively. Although she’s trying to reconcile with her husband, Pee Wee, she’s still seeing other men on the side. With her love life popping, Annette should be as pleased as punch. Instead, the stress has her eating everything in sight and when her world is rocked by a terrible revelation, she’ll discover that appearances can be very, very deceiving. Meanwhile, Annette’s best friend, Rhoda O’Toole, has her hands full—as usual—dealing with her wild child daughter Jade. Jade has always been a cross to bear, but when her antics almost cost Rhoda her man, Rhoda decides things between her and Jade must change.

Monroe is also included in the reference book, The 100 Most Popular African American Writers.
