When I was preparing for the arrival of my daughter, I read all types of books. However, one subject that I thought was lacking in most of these books was how to care for your child’s teeth. I was told by her pediatrician that as long as her teeth came in within the first year that I had nothing to worry about.

However, I wasn’t given much guidance after this stage. Now that she is getting older, I am unsure of what steps to take to properly care for her teeth. I decided to do some research online and I also started the search for great pediatric dentist in the area. Here are a few tips I found helpful.

  1. Toothpaste – For younger children, make sure the toothpaste you use does not have fluoride in it as it can be harmful to their teeth. If you do use toothpaste that has fluoride in it, just use a small amount.
  2. Dentist Visit – It is recommend by the American Pediatric Academy that a child’s first visit to the dentist should be around their third birthday.
  3. Proper Diet & Routine – It’s always important to have a healthy diet as what you eat can affect the healthiness of your teeth. Try to keep your kids away from sugar. In addition, practice flossing and brushing with them. It’s important they develop a routine to ensure strong and healthy teeth.
