Being a stay-at-home mom doesn’t mean that raising your child is your only job. What does it mean to be a stay-at-home mom? This is one job that doesn’t have an exact set of responsibilities, expectations or for that matter yearly monetary raise. Ha!
As a stay-at-home mom, I sometimes wonder how the outside world sees me. When I decided to become a stay-at-home, I definitely got some back lash. Some did not understand why I would earn my MBA and still choose not to go back to work. They didn’t see the connection.
I think a stigma exists especially now a days when more and more women are the main providers for their household. However for me the connection was clear as day. I am a true believer that when an opportunity presents itself, you have to take it, otherwise you can’t complain if you are not happy with your life and your choices.
All throughout business school I was pregnant–my husband was working, so we decided that it would be best for me to be at home throughout the pregnancy. Once I had the baby and finished my degree, I began to ponder the idea of going back to work. I struggled with it for a while but I realized that God was presenting me with an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. My husband was willing and able to work to pay for our living, so I took on the role of managing the household and caring for our daughter. In addition, during this realization process I also decided to apply my newly earned degree and start two companies, Beautiful Purpose Events and Food So Good Mall.

Now, three years later. I am still a stay-at- home mom, managing the household, caring and teaching my daughter full-time and running two successful businesses. So back to my original question, what does it mean to be a stay-at-home mom? I don’t think there is one true description. There are so many stay-at-home moms out there that are redefining what it means to be a stay-at- home mom and I want to bring to light that choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is a choice that comes with many responsibilities and many opportunities. It’s one job that you right your own job description.
