It seems like candy has value outside of being a sweet treat. According to the blog JazzaBelle Tresses, products used in candy can actually be used to create beautiful tresses. Caramel, peppermint and licorice are just a few examples of candy products that are used in hair products.

Caramel

A treatment known as the Caramel Hair Treatment has been found to soften and moisturize hair. It’s great for natural hair ladies who might want to loosen the texture of their hair or decrease the amount of shrinkage that occurs after washing the hair. If you are transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair but are still getting relaxers from time to time it helps to extend the amount of time that is needed in between relaxers. This treatment is to be done every 6-8 weeks. The ingredients contained in this product are honey, bananas, olive oil, molasses, water, apple cider vinegar, cornstarch and wheat germ oil. You could easily make this product at home or purchase it.

Peppermint

Malin + Goetz Peppermint Hair Shampoo uses natural peppermint extract to purify and balance the hair without the use of harsh ingredients. Helps to prevent drying, stripping, irritation and build-up.

According to the Dermatology Times, there has been a study that has shown that an active compound extracted from licorice has helped to stop the hair growth in rats. Researchers have found that after three days of treatment there was a reduction in hair growth and after 6-12 days the rat’s hair was nearly completely gone. There were also no signs of irritation or other side effects. This is thought to be done by causing the hair shaft to detach from the follicular wall. Clinical trials for this product will be the next stage for this product.
