UPDATE: Less than 48 hours after announcing a new fragrance from her Sasha Fierce line, Beyonce has been sued by clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch on claims that “fierce” falls under their trademark.

In a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday, Abercrombie said Knowles’ plan “poses a likelihood of confusion” for consumers that could deprive the clothing company of control over a mark it has used since 2002, and ultimately lead to loss of sales.

Abercrombie said it has sold more than $190 million worth of fragrance under the “Fierce” name, and expects $64 million of sales in 2009. The company boasts of its “signature” scent that is regularly sprayed in its 350 retail stores through scent machines or by employees, saying “A&F’s intent is that all garments that leave the store have the Fierce scent attached to them.”

“Beyonce To Create Signature Scent”

Competition in the celebrity fragrance market just got a little fiercer.  Confirming a rumor that had been circulating for a while on the wires, WWD reports that Beyonce has officially signed a deal with Coty Inc. – the same company who is responsible for Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Paker and Gwen Stefani’s scents – to produce her own perfume.

“For me, fragrance reflects a woman’s attitude and unique sense of style,” Beyonce told WWD. “While I love various perfumes, I haven’t found a scent that truly personifies me as a woman. Working with Coty, I was able to turn my ideal fragrance into a reality by creating an alluring and sophisticated fragrance; one that’s reflective of my inner power.” And while this is Beyonce’s first shot at creating a scent, the superstar singer has fronted fragrance campaigns such as Tommy Hillfiger’s True Star in 2004 and Emporio Armani’s Diamonds fragrance in 2007. No details on what her scent will smell like, but Beyonce’s fragrance is set to hit stores this spring. We can’t wait to smell it – and see the ad campaign!

We’re wondering, what will the bottle look like?
