There are a million things to love about Tina Turner, and I’m about to tell you one more.
In a recent interview with Daily Mail’s David Thomas, the 69-year-old rocker seemed totally unphased by America’s obsession with practically starving to fit a body ideal. Says the piece,
So what is the secret of Tina’s age-defying powers? She’s never been seen anywhere near a gym. Yet she can walk into tour rehearsals, after eight years of near-total retirement and go straight into top gear.
She swears by ten hours’ sleep a night. And she has always steered well clear of drugs, saying: ‘You get nothing from drugs, except ones for bad health. I prefer to spend my money on something I can see and can use and can keep around me.’
On the other hand, she never goes on a diet. ‘I hate all that calorie counting,’ she insists. ‘I eat what I want and then if my weight starts to go up, I cut back.’
While stars like Madonna seem to display an almost morbid fear of ageing, Tina has retained her relative youthfulness without worrying too much about the passing years.
As she puts it: ‘Of course, I’ve aged a bit in the face, but not enough to worry about it. I have common sense enough to know that if I’m nearly 70, something has to happen.’
‘I knew a very long time ago that I always wanted to be as slender and attractive as I possibly could be. So what do you do? You keep up with fashion to a certain point. You care about your size, your figure and the clothes you wear.
‘As time passes, a woman goes through changes with her body, her hormones and all of that, but I didn’t have a problem with that. So I was fortunate.’
Amen for being older and fierce without surgery, excessive strain, or an unhealthy diet. Tina Turner officially told the world that she can do whatever the hell she wants. Hopefully that’ll be a good incentive for all those older women out there with one foot in the plastic surgery center – EMBRACE YOUR AGE!
